Modern sustainable luxury inspired by the native plant fibers and ancient handcrafted traditions of Yucatán, México.
Angela Damman explores ways in which contemporary design can be inspired by local folklore. Villagers in rural Mayan communities believe it is good luck to have a black cat (in contrast to western belief). It is black because it has absorbed the evil spirits from the home and garden. Espiritu is made from the local plant fiber henequen, quadruple dyed from a black tone recipe created by Angela Damman. The original Espiritu was released December 2021 for an artist in residency program at Casa Escuela, Merida, Yucatan.
